Donation Is Flooring Solution For Senior Center
|
|
|
|
Plumsted Township’s
first Senior Citizen Meeting/Activities Room, located in the Municipal Building
at 121 Evergreen Road,
is nearing completion thanks to a generous donation by “The Flooring Solution”
company owned and operated by Henry and Liz O’Hern, in the New Egypt section of
Plumsted Township. The Township has been relying
upon grants and donations to construct and complete the Senior Citizen Meeting
/ Activities Room, complete with kitchen area and bathroom facilities, for the
past three years and needed a “solution” to pay for the room’s flooring. The
estimated cost of $5,000 for the room’s flooring was not available in the
Township’s budget. All funds had been expended from the Community Development
Block Grants and a special State Legislative Budget grant for the general
construction costs of the room, as well as, the purchase and installation of an
elevator.
Earlier this year, Henry and
Liz O’Hern opened “The Flooring Solution” (www.theflooringsolutionnj.com) at 281 Long Swamp Road
in New Egypt. As a new business in the Township, the O’Herns decided to offer a
“solution” to the Township’s funding dilemma by providing and installing the
new flooring as a donation to the Township. Plumsted has been aggressively
promoting the often-overlooked Federal I.R.S. (Internal Revenue Service)
regulations section that permits tax deductible donations to Township
Governments if used for a public purpose. The Township has received similar tax
deductible donations this year for the construction of a new park on Evergreen Road,
along the Crosswicks Creek, as well as, tax deductible donations for Plumsted’s
Art Council events and the New Egypt Main Street Organization events and
promotions.
The newly formed Senior Outreach Search (S.O.S.)
Committee and Senior Meeting / Activities Room Trustees are seeking donations
to benefit Senior Citizen services in our Community, as well as, to provide
needed furnishings and amenities to the room. The Township is hopeful to have a
grand opening of its’ first Senior Citizen Meeting / Activities Room in
September. For more information on Plumsted’s Senior Outreach Search services
and donations, please call 609-758-4004 or personally meet with a
representative at the Township’s Welcome
Center office, 31 Main Street, New
Egypt, Monday-Wednesday-Friday, from 10am to 12 noon.
The annual Fall service
project for the local “Mom’s Club” is collecting school supplies for
children
who may not have the financial means to have more than the basics
offered at
the school. With the cooperation of local businesses, the Mom’s Club
has
donation bins conveniently located at the following downtown New Egypt
stores:
The New Egypt Market Place; the CVS Pharmacy; Taster’s Canvas Deli; and
the
Broken Porch. Among the items being donated are: notebooks,
calculators; book
back packs; pens, pencils, notepads and crayons, etc.
With the Fall season
approaching, residents are reminded to mark their calendars for the
annual Flu
Shot Clinic to be held in Plumsted and scheduled for Wednesday,
November 5th
at the New Egypt First Aid Building from 1 to 2pm.
Residents
are reminded and encouraged to attend
the Township’s Council for the Arts Summer events in Downtown New
Egypt. The
next event is, “The Jay Sweet Trio,” on Saturday, August 9th, at
Scott’s Market on Main Street
beginning at 1pm. One of the most popular and best attended events is
the
return of “Cruz Nites,” featuring the display of classic and antique
cars, to
the New
Egypt Downtown Main Street,
on the second Thursday of each month. The final two “Cruz Nites” are August 14th
and September 11th
(6 to 9 pm).
The Township’s Recycling Center will be closed on Saturday,
August 30, in observance of the Labor Day Holiday weekend.

the new administration of Township Committee members Dave Leutwyler,
Steve Reed, Eric Sorchik, Deputy Mayor Mike McCue and Mayor Ron Dancer

at
8:00 P.M.
