No Tax Increase In Township Budget
|
During the June 4th
public meeting, the Township Committee approved the introduction of a
2008
Municipal Budget that is $2,952 lower in spending and $10,412 lower in
taxes
from last year. The $3,693,510 budget does not increase the municipal
tax rate
of nine (9) cents per $100 of assessed valuation, despite a decline in
the
Township’s ratable base due to the current real estate market
conditions.
The owner of a
$384,000 home, the Township
average, will have no increase in the annual $345 municipal government
portion
of this year’s property tax bill. The county-wide average for the
annual
municipal government portion of property tax bills is $1,327, nearly
four (4)
times higher than Plumsted’s $345. Overall, the new 2008-09 property
tax bills,
including the School, County, Township and Fire Commission taxes, are
estimated
to be about two (2) percent over last years’ tax bill, when completed
and
prepared for mailing within the next few weeks.
The Township Committee
authorized the hiring of two police officers, following interviews with
the
Committee on June 4th. Prior to joining the
Plumsted Police
Departmet, Diana Felenczak, of Bayville, was previously employed as a
Police
Officer in the Townships of New Hanover, Belmar and Seaside
Heights.
Brant Uricks, of Jackson,
was previously
employed as a Special Law Enforcement Police Officer with the Sea Girt
Police
Department and as a part-time Dispatcher for the Jackson Police
Department.
The Township Committee
appointed additional members to serve on various committees and
advisory
boards. Newly appointed to the Township’s first “Senior Outreach
Search”
Advisory Board are John Kirsch and Pearl Elias. Joining the Township’s
newly
established “Green Technology” Advisory Committee is Gary Pizzuti.
The deadline for senior and
disabled homeowners to file their Homestead Rebate and Senior Freeze
applications has been extended from June 2 to August 15. More
information can
be obtained by calling our Tax Collector’s office at 609-758-2241 ext.
