Grants Obtained For Police
Department |
The Federal Government's Department of Justice Bulletproof
Vest Partnership Program has informed the Township Committee that our Police
Department has been awarded funds to purchase bulletproof vests. Since 1999,
more than 11,900 law enforcement jurisdictions Nationwide have participated in
the Bulletproof Vest Program, supporting the purchase of an estimated 642,000
vests.
The Township Committee has also received a State Grant for
the purchase of two motorcycles for our Police Department to access the
thousands of preserved forested acres for law enforcement patrol purposes, such
as, illegal drugs; underage drinking; and illegal dumping. Our preserved
forests and woodland areas will no longer be safe havens for criminal
activities with the capability of our Police Department to access the trails in
the woods.
The Township Committee and Land Use Board have saved from
future residential development the six (6) acres of remaining open space
located at the corner of the Hawkin Road and Lakewood Road (Route 528)
intersection. The Township Preservation Program has nearly 1,000 acres of
farms, forests and open space areas to be added to the more than 3,000 acres
already saved from being developed with homes, pending final approvals with
landowners and our funding partners at the State and County.
The Township Committee has appointed, as a result of State
grant programs, a professional firm for business retention and attraction
purposes. The JGSC Group is a nationally recognized specialist in business
recruitment and is providing Plumsted with two consultant services. First, our
Main Street New Egypt organization was one of eight towns in the State to be
selected for the on-site business recruitment assistance from JGSC, whose
professional services are valued at $23,700, at no cost to Plumsted since we
are the recipient of the State's Main Street Grant Program. Secondly, the
Township Committee obtained a $20,000 grant from the State Department of
Community Affairs to fund a feasibility study by the JGSC firm for establishing
a Business Improvement District that would qualify Plumsted for the State's
nonlapsing business improvement revolving loan fund within the Department of
Community Affairs.
The public is reminded and encouraged to support upcoming
community events. The annual Fall Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday,
November 4, from 11am to 4pm on the portions of Main Street and Evergreen
Road that will be closed to thru traffic during the Festival. The New Egypt
Main Street Organization has planned the Festival to coincide with the
Fireman's Annual Fried Oyster & Chicken Salad Dinner to maximize
attendance for both events, as well as, benefit local businesses. Main Street's
Fall Festival will provide family fun and entertainment for all ages with no
admission fee and all rides for children are free. For more information on the
Fall Harvest Festival, please contact the Main Street Executive Director, Peter

Trees to be planted at the new park site on Evergreen Road. Additionally, the
County also presented Plumsted with a $4,407 check from the County's Recycling
Revenue Sharing Program.
Regarding the upcoming November 6th Election, the
Township Committee passed a Resolution at its October 3rd meeting to officially
endorse and support the passage of a State-wide Bond Question on the ballot
entitled, "Green Acres, Farmland and Historic Preservation Bond Act of 2007."
To date, Plumsted Township has preserved more than 3,000 acres of farm and
woodland from development with approximately another 1,000 acres pending to be
permanently preserved. The Township Committee has obtained millions of dollars
in grants from the State for our Land Preservation Programs and passage of this
State Bond Act would greatly benefit our efforts to continue retaining our
rural character.
The Township Committee obtained a Tourism Grant from Ocean
County to pay for a Plumsted Tourism Brochure that will include a FREE Business
Directory for all businesses in the Township. To be included in this free
business directory submit the business name, address, phone, fax, email and
