Town Talk By Mayor Ron
Dancer October 15, 2007
Dave Leutwyler Appointed To Township
Committee |
The Township Committee, on October 10th, appointed Dave
Leutwyler to complete the remainder of the late Ken Francis' term of office on
the Township Committee through December 31st of this year. Prior to his death,
Deputy Mayor Francis informed his family that he would like to see his close
friend Dave Leutwyler carry on his work for Plumsted on the Township Committee.
Knowing of Dave Leutwyler's qualifications and his years of dedicated volunteer
service to the youth of this Community, the Township Committee unanimously
honored the request of Ken.
Prior to the official voting to appoint Dave Leutwyler,
members of the public in attendance were provided with Dave's background
information. Dave is 48 years old and married to his wife, Linda, for 25 years.
They have two sons, David and Danny. David graduated from New Egypt High School
in 2004 and attends York College in York, PA. Danny is a senior at New Egypt
High School and the family has lived in Plumsted since 1992.
Dave Leutwyler shared Ken's passion for the youth of this
Community and family values as evidenced by both Dave and Ken volunteering to
serve in Scouting with their children. Dave was a Cub Scout Master with New
Egypt Pack 9, from 1992 to 2001. Dave was a coach with New Egypt Baseball from
1992 to 2004 and Vice President New Egypt Baseball 1994 to 2004. He was a coach
with New Egypt Soccer from 1992 to 2003 and Vice President New Egypt Soccer
1995 to 1997. Dave was also a coach with New Egypt Basketball from 1995 to
2004.
Dave Leutwyler has a professional background in
electronics and is a Project Manager with CMS Communications, specializing in
business communication systems and is a graduate of Lincoln Technical
Institute. Dave is an active member of the Church of the Assumption and Knights
of Columbus Council 10900 of New Egypt.
Township Committeeman Dave Leutwyler was assigned the
Departments that were previously held by Ken Francis, including the Road
Department; Fire Department; First Aid Squad; Landlord/Tenant Advisory Council;
Business-Public Safety Committee; New Egypt Main Street Program; Municipal
Building Committee; and the Plumsted Municipal Utilities Authority member.
Prior to his September 29th death, Deputy Mayor Ken
Francis was seeking re-election to the Township Committee in the upcoming
November 6th General Election. The Township has been informed, by the Ocean
County Clerk's Office, that the ballots have been printed with Ken Francis'
name as a candidate for Township Committee and the ballots cannot be changed at
this time. Therefore, in the event Ken Francis' name is declared a winner for
one of the two open Township Committee seats, the State Vacancy Law procedure
would once again be followed. To simplify matters, it would be the intent of
all concerned in the vacancy process to nominate and select Ken's replacement,
Dave Leutwyler, to serve a one year term in 2008.
Regarding the upcoming November 6th Election, the Township
Committee passed a Resolution at its October 3rd meeting to officially endorse
and support the passage of a State-wide Bond Question on the ballot entitled,
"Green Acres, Farmland and Historic Preservation Bond Act of 2007." To date,
Plumsted Township has preserved more than 3,000 acres of farm and woodland from
development with approximately another 1,000 acres pending to be permanently
preserved. The Township Committee has obtained millions of dollars in grants
from the State for our Land Preservation Programs and passage of this State
Bond Act would greatly benefit our efforts to continue retaining our rural
character.
The Township Committee obtained a Tourism Grant from Ocean
County to pay for a Plumsted Tourism Brochure that will include a FREE Business
Directory for all businesses in the Township. To be included in this free
business directory submit the business name, address, phone, fax, email and
website information by October 15 to sgano@estreetdesigns.com or leave a
message at 609-758-2733.

administration of Township Committee members Mike McCue, Eric Sorchik, Ada
Roberts, and Mayor Ron Dancer is November 7that 8:00 P.M
