The Plumsted Police Department responds to family
crisis situations in the Township and makes referrals to the Family Crisis
Intervention Unit of Ocean County when needed. The unit was established in 1984
and assists in resolving family crises. The program is part of the Ocean County
Superior Court Family Division. The Family Crisis Unit provides the following
information.
The family Crisis Intervention Unit,
established in January 1984, serves as an aid in the resolution of juvenile
family crises. The program is part of the Ocean County superior Court Family
Division. The programs purpose is to respond as soon as possible to juveniles
in crisis. The program deals with troubled juveniles and their families in a
non-coercive manner, giving them an opportunity to resolve conflicts and
receive needed services.
The program is required, by law,
to exhaust services before making referral to Family Court. The Family Court
has jurisdiction over any family members contributing to the crisis situation
and is empowered to order remedial actions.

Any conduct or condition presenting:
- A serious threat to the well-being and safety of
the juvenile
- A serious conflict between parent and juvenile
regarding rules of conduct which have been manifested by repeated disregard by
the juvenile for lawful parental authority or misuse of lawful parental
authority by parent or guardian.
- Unauthorized absence by a juvenile from the home
for more than 24 hours.
- A pattern of repeated unauthorized absences from
school by the juvenile subject to compulsory education.
The program receives referrals from a variety of
sources, including the Plumsted Police Department, parents, social service
agencies, friends, relatives, schools, and self.
Anyone can report a crisis situation.
Referrals can be made by contacting the program via
telephone or in person.
Truancy referrals made by school officials must be
submitted on the appropriate referral form.
