Frequently Asked Questions
to the Mayor and Township Committee We frequently are asked some
important questions about our Township, and would like to share the answers
with you.
Where can I get information about property taxes?
Each year the Township Committee prints a Tax Bill flier which
explains how much the taxes are, where the taxes go, what you receive for your
taxes and how to apply for more than 11 programs to reduce your taxes. This
information flyer is available at both the Tax Office and the Township Clerk's
Office.
Where do my tax dollars go?
Approximately 66% to the School; 25% td the County; 5% to the unpaid
tax fund; 3% to the Fire Commission and 1% to the Township for Local Government
Services, Operations and Capital Projects.
Who do I contact
if I have tax questions? The School Board of Education (758-6800)
establishes the School Budget and determines the amount of Taxes needed. County
Taxes are set by the Ocean County Board of Freeholders (732-244-2121). Fire

and Township Committee (758-2241) only control municipal government taxes which
are an estimated 6% of the total Tax Bill including unpaid taxes.
If most (94%) of
my taxes are for school, county and fire protection service, how does the
Township Committee pay for local government operations, services and capital
projects? The major revenue sources for the Township Committee's Budget
are: State aid and grants, with the remainder from surplus, interest and
fees.
