Project Lifesaver Available At No Cost

Project Lifesaver, providing a small personalized tracking bracelet to persons of any age with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Down syndrome or Autism, is now available at no cost to Plumsted Township residents. Plumsted’s Senior Outreach Search (SOS) program and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office are funding and implementing Project Lifesaver.

With Project Lifesaver, if a person wearing the tracking bracelet has wandered off from their caregiver, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office will respond with tracking equipment that transmits a signal every second to their receiver. Response time to locate the person is generally within 10 minutes for the time the call was made.

For more information on the Plumsted Township Lifesaver Program, residents may call the Senior Outreach Search offices at 609-758-2241 ext. 111 or the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office at 732-341-3451.

Tax deductible donations to support this program can be made to: Plumsted Township S.O.S. in the Memory of Barbara Buzgo.

Private fundraising, with major donations from the New Egypt Agway and Blacey’s Auto Parts, have made it possible for Plumsted Township to continue its tradition of an Independence Day fireworks display. Faced with cuts in state aid, the Township Committee adopted a budget with no tax dollars appropriated for fireworks, however, the American Legion Post 455 stepped forward to sponsor this year’s fireworks with donations from businesses and citizens.

The fireworks display will be Saturday, July 4th, at the new Egypt High School athletic field grounds (rain date is Sunday, July 5th). The fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m., but the American Legion has planned festivities from 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. with food, refreshments, games and attractions. Live entertainment concerts start at 5:00 p.m. and features The Mahoney Brothers, Juke Box Heros Show. Also appearing are the teen pop sensations, Diverse, Riverwinds and local favorites Second Time Around. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and for more information contact event chairman, Al Hutchins at 609-758-3005.

Friends of the Plumsted Library are accepting donated books, CD’s, DVD’s and jigsaw puzzles on Saturday, July 4th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the trailer directly behind the Library, 119 Evergreen Road, New Egypt. The book drop-off will be held every morning on the first Saturday of each month in preparation for the annual fundraiser book sale held in November.

Due to the rain, “Cruz Nites,” featuring the display of classic and antique cars, was canceled June 11th and has been re-scheduled for Thursday, June 25th. The Cruz Nite summer events are held on portions of the New Egypt Downtown Main and North Main Streets. Next month, Cruz Nites return to the advertised schedule of the second Thursday of each month, from July 9 to September 10 (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.).
