Scholarship Funds Available

The N.J. League of Municipalities, representing all 566 Townships in the State, has announced that three (3) Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded to High School Seniors entering College this Fall. Public, private and home schooled students are all eligible. To be considered for the $1,000 Scholarship Award, students are to write an essay of the theme “What My Mayor and Governing Body Do Best”. The essay should be approximately 500 words and must be submitted to the Mayor (121 Evergreen Rd., New Egypt)
no later than March 15th.
In addition to financially assisting the students with their college education, the scholarship competition advances the virtues and heightens public awareness of elected and volunteer positions in municipal government. Students may contact their elected officials for interviews and ask them questions prior to writing and submitting their essays by calling 758-2241 x 102. Applications for the scholarships are available at the Municipal Clerk’s office, 121 Evergreen Road, or by calling the Clerk’s office at 609-758-2241 x 101.
Seeking Road Improvement Suggestions
Deputy Mayor Dave Leutwyler and Mayor Ron Dancer will be meeting in Toms River on Monday, February 22, with Ocean County officials in the Road and Engineering Departments to discuss road and drainage projects, as well as traffic safety improvements, on behalf of Plumsted Township. The Township Committee would like input and suggestions from residents for improvements before the meeting. Residents should call 758-2241 ext. 102 with any comments by end of business day (5:00 p.m.) on
Friday, February 19.
Mobile Services Bus
The mobile Ocean County Connection Office Bus will be in Plumsted Township on
Monday, March 1st, 2010, at the Plumsted Branch of the Ocean County Library, 119 Evergreen Road, from 1pm to 3pm. The County Connection provides information, assistance and services directly to the people on location, rather than, the people traveling to Toms River. Among the services are: application processing of passports; photo I.D.’s; senior and veteran services, and much more. Residents are encouraged to utilize this service to ensure its’ continuation in Plumsted Township.

Planning Board Seat Available
|
Plumsted’s Planning/Land Use Board has a vacancy and the Township Committee is seeking local residents with an interest in serving to submit a letter or resume to the Municipal Clerk’s office for consideration. Part-time Construction Office
For reasons of economy and cost reductions, the Township Committee authorized
the full-time layoff and the closing of the Construction Office on Fridays, with
only part-time service available Monday through Thursday. Residents needing
services pertaining to construction permits or inspections, as well as, Planning
/ Land Use Board matters are advised to call for appointments until a part time
schedule is published. The Construction Office / Planning Land Use Board phone
number is 609-758-2241 ext. 105 or call the Municipal Clerk’s office at 758-2241
ext. 101.
Snow Clearing and Parking
Residents are reminded that during snowstorms with accumulations that require
snow plowing, it is unlawful for homeowners to remove snow from their private
property and place it onto public roads, including the use of snow-blower
machinery.
On
street parking is prohibited within the entire Township during times of snow
plowing. In the Downtown New Egypt business / commercial zone, property owners
and / or tenants are required to clear sidewalks of snow within 12 hours of
daylight after snow fall ends.
It is
unlawful to discharge water from any sources onto sidewalks or streets during
freezing temperatures with the result being ice that creates a public safety
hazard.
Free Family Fun Day
The Fifth Annual Family Fun Day, sponsored by Plumsted Township’s
Municipal Alliance Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, The New Egypt Elks and ADACO
(Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Ocean County), is being held on Saturday,
February 27, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at the New Egypt Elks Lodge, 111 Lakewood Rd. (Rt. 528). The event and
food is free and is a great opportunity for parents and children to have fun and
reinforce family values. Free IDs for children, games, prizes, fatal vision

Fire Tax and Commissioner Election
The annual Plumsted Board of Fire Commissioners election and amount of
taxes to be raised question will be for the voters to decide on Saturday,
February 20th. Plumsted Township registered voters may go to the
polls at the New Egypt Fire House on Main Street and vote between the hours of
2:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
