Public Safety Efforts Include Email Alert Service

The resources of the
Plumsted Township Police Department will be enhanced and expanded under the
terms of an Intergovernmental Shared Services Agreement with the Ocean County
Prosecutor’s Office approved by the Township Committee at its public meeting of
November 5th. Specifically, the County Prosecutor’s
Office and the Plumsted Police Department will jointly participate in the
“Driving While Intoxicated Checkpoints” (DWIC) program with the County providing
additional personnel and training. The County Prosecutor’s Office will
coordinate with the Plumsted P.D. for the scheduling of D.W.I. Checkpoint
activities, as well as, the training and paying of the personnel.
The State Division of Motor
Vehicles has awarded Plumsted a “Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund Grant” in the
amount of $6,073 to provide additional funding to Plumsted’s Municipal Court
for related expenses in the prosecution of Driving Under the Influence
(D.U.I.).
There are reports of
attempted breaking / entering and burglary of some homes in this region,
including sections of Plumsted Township and neighboring Upper Freehold
Township. Anyone with
information or observing suspicious activity is urged to report it to the
police. Upper Freehold Township
does not have a local Police Department and residents there should contact the
State Police with helpful information. Plumsted residents my contact their
local P.D. at 758-3738 for non-emergency informational purposes.
Plumsted Township is planning to establish an “E-Mail Alert
Service” to inform all residents of important news, emergency and public safety
notices, special Township events and much more. Any resident desiring to

service.
Two
new 2008 Dodge Charger Police Cars have been placed in service for the Plumsted
Police Department. The Township Committee authorized the lease / purchase under
a State Contract. The Township is advertising for the sale (best offer) of two
police cars, a 2003 Crown Victoria with about 165,000 miles and a 2000 Crown
Victoria with an estimated 171,000 miles. Anyone with an interest in purchasing
either or both of the cars, please contact the Township’s Finance Office at
609-758-2241 x 113.
The Township Committee
appointed local resident, Jennifer Doidge, as a School Crossing Guard at the
November 5th public meeting. School Crossing Guards are under the
supervision of the Plumsted Police Department. The Township is hiring School
Crossing Guards and interested applicants should contact either Police
Headquarters (758-3738) or the Municipal Clerk’s office (758-2241 x 101).
Crossing Guards receive training from the Police Department, no prior
experience is necessary, and hours are flexible.
The next regularly scheduled public meetings with
the new administration of Township Committee members Dave Leutwyler,
Steve Reed, Eric Sorchik, Deputy Mayor Mike McCue and Mayor Ron Dancer
is Wednesday, (December 3rd)
at
8:00 P.M.

As a result of the new Township Committee meeting
schedule, the dates for the monthly one-on-one personal meeting
sessions with Mayor Ron Dancer at the Library every month have also
been revised. In 2007, meet personally with the Mayor at the Library on
the second (2nd) Wednesday of each month (November 12th)
from 7 to 9 p.m. to discuss local concerns or State
issues. Residents
may call the
Library (758-7888) in advance to schedule a specific time for your
convenience. The Mayor encourages residents to
