McGuire Air Force Base saw the return of 160 service personnel from wartime duty from the Kosovar conflict in time for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Families reunited following the arrival of several KC Extender Aircraft which landed returning members of the 305th Air Mobility wing which had been stationed in Spain. The planes were used for refueling during the NATO bombing in Yugoslavia. On Wednesday June 30 Brig. Gen. Richard Mentemeyer, commander of the 305th, greeted airmen upon their return to the Burlington County air force base. Fifty servicemen arrived a few days prior and over 30 servicemen arrived with four KC-10s on Thursday. On Friday the last 70 servicemen return in five KC extenders. Kosovar refuggess who have been staying at Fort Dix have been leaving the area for points all over the country. The total of refugees went from 3,000 to 727. While at Fort Dix five refugee children were born and two died. The target date to close the camp is July 30. |
