Town Talk Census important to Plumsted
By Mayor Ron Dancer Thursday, February 17, 2000
Deputy Mayor Joe Przywara would like all residents to be aware
that the United States Census questionnaires will be mailed in March.
Many Federal and State Grant programs are funded based on
population, as well as, our representation in the U.S. Congress and the N.J.
Legislature.
The more funds we receive from the federal and state
governments, the less we have to raise in local taxes and the stronger our
representation in the federal and state government will be. According to Ocean
County Government which compiles census information on an annual basis for all
municipalities within Ocean County.
The population (every man, women and child) of Plumsted
Township is 7,054 as of July 1999. The population of Plumsted Township in July
1990 was 6005. Since 1990, the population of Plumsted has increased by 1,049
people, which is just under a two percent annual growth rate.
Copies of the Ocean County documents for population figures are
available at the Township Clerk's office.
Remember, to be under counted is to be under funded.
During the 1990's Township Committee members Ken Francis, Bonnie
Quesnel, Mike Roberts and Deputy Mayor Joe Przywara obtained in excess of $3
million in grants which helped to keep the local government portion of the
total property tax bill stable.
Please complete and mail in your census form. All census
information on the questionnaire is confidential. Neither the President of the
United States, the I.R.S., the F.B.I. nor any other agency or individual can
have access to census information.
Should you have any questions about the census, call our local
census bureau in Lakehurst at 732-408-1842.
On Saturday, February 19, voters can go to the polls at the fire
