NE firemen rescue Fluffy the Cat: Monday, January 17, 2000 10:36 PM New Egypt firemen rescue fearful feline Firefighters come to rescue of cat up a tree By Bob Vosseller Imagine your cold, afraid and trapped in a very high place and you don't know how to get down. Those are the type of feelings a six-month old kitten felt on Monday morning when it was stuck up a tree. "It was your typical rescue story," New Egypt resident Mary Partyka said. The Archertown Road resident's 11 year old son Tommy could not find their family feline on Sunday evening. On Monday morning however, the cat was discovered, on the branch of a 12 foot tree in the family's backyard. She was clinging to the tree branch as chilling, strong, gusts of wind threatened to blow her over. "There we were at 8 o'clock in the morning, watching the cat. My husband Tom had gone to work and my son Tommy and my daughter Stephanie (8) and Michael, (10) and I were trying to get "Fluffy" down," Mrs. Partyka said. The woman added that "we really want to thank firemen Tom and Dave of the New Egypt Fire Department. We were so afraid Fluffy would fall or would be suffering from hypothermia because it was so cold. The firemen did a great job. They are heros. They arrived and extended their ladder. It was wonderful." The Partyka clan will be keeping a closer eye on Fluffy in the future and one would assume that the cat will probably not venture into such high points of peril in the future. The cat was unharmed but a bit chilly. The firemen in question didn't find the morning to be too warm either but its all in a day's job when you are part of the volunteer fire company. |
