Born in Steilacoom, Washington, on December 4, 1981, to Patrick and Gretchen McCann, Lila Elaine McCann, has become one of the fastest rising stars in the Country music business.

At age 17, she has just released her second album called, "Something In the Air", already shared the stage with 90's country superstars such as Tim Mc Graw, Faith Hill, John Michael Montgomery, and Lee Ann Womack, and was hailed by Time Magazine as the most successful new artist of 1997.

Despite the fact that she is a famous female country superstar like Shania Twain and LeAnn Rhimes, Lila is still just a normal seventeen year old girl. Just like any normal seventeen year old, she is a Junior at Steilacoom High School in Steilacoom, Washington where she has lived all her life.

In a recent exclusive interview backstage before her performance at Six Flags Great Adventure last Saturday night, I asked what it was like to juggle a professional country music career and the life of a teenager. "I still go to public school and I have known the same people all my life, so they are really supportive," she said.

Being a country music star and high school cheerleader puts the five foot five, blonde, blue-eyed singer in some pretty strange situations. After a 1998 cheerleader camp, Lila found herself sitting on a bus talking to a fellow cheerleader when the girl said, "You know what? You look just like Lila McCann."

Lila politely thanked the girl but didn't spill the beans. As the conversation spread through the bus, Lila was found out by some of the other cheerleaders but the first girl didn't believe her. Lila even tried singing for her, but was unable to convince the girl of her true identity.

Lila used to sing with her father's country band. Two weeks before her fifth birthday, Lila said that she wanted to sing a song. They decided on "You Are My Sunshine." Right before Lila was about to go sing, she panicked and hid in the bathroom. Lila's mom came to the bathroom door asking Lila to come out. After much back-and-forth arguing, Lila's mother finally asked "Lila, what do I have to do to get you to come out and sing?" Well, there just happened to be a new Barbie that Lila wanted, so she struck a deal with her mom. Her mom got her to sing, Lila got her Barbie.

In 1995, Lila participated in a showcase for Asylum Records, her current record label. In 1997, at the age of fifteen, she topped the charts with her first song, "Down Came a Blackbird."
