Plumsted's New Library: The Nations Finest!

Saturday, March 13, 1999, 10:30 a.m. ESTNew Egypt--Representatives from the Ocean Country Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Mayor and Committee of Plumsted Township and the Ocean County Library Commission gathered today for the dedication and grand opening of the new Plumsted Branch of the Ocean County library.
The dedication and grand opening of the new library turned out a very large gathering of more than 100 people on a sunny but somewhat cold morning. The crowd was greeted by the New Egypt Middle School Jazz Band. A warm welcome by Elaine H. McConnell, Library Director, the invocation by Reverend Paul Amey of the New Egypt United Methodist Church started off the ceremony. Speeches were given by James J. Mancini, Library Liaison Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Ronald S. Dancer, Mayer Plumsted Township; James F. Malone, Chairman Ocean County Library Commission; Joyce Cini, President of the Goods Friends of the Plumsted Library. Barbara Rothlein, Plumsted Library Branch manager was presented a plaque by Betsy Rybczynski and introduced the staff. Rothlein donated to the library the Children's Quilt inspired by Lorraine Hilburn and designed by Dorothy Mathison. Following the presentation of the key to the new facility by James W. Hyres, Architect, the guests were invited to tour the building, partake of refreshments and enjoy music by Bonnie Leigh.
The new 6000 sq. ft. library, located at 119 Evergreen Road (green #2 on the map), is a state of the art facility which houses 16,000 books and magazines and has a 40 seat meeting room. Purported to be the finest library in the county, state and nation, Plumsted's new library facility has a collection of PC's for expanded access to on-line resources and the Internet.
The new facility costing $975,000 was funded jointly in a partnership with the township and the county. The operating cost of the library is funded by the Ocean county library commission. The building was designed by James W. Hyres, Architect; built by Fasolino Contracting, with the interior designed by Suzan Globus, A.S.I.D. The Plumsted Branch will be staffed by Barbara Rothlein, Manager, Wendy Quesnel, Grace Samis, Barbara Simons, and Christine Zahn. The library hours will be:
