If you believe the impossible, the incredible can come true. Just ask that corn farmer from Iowa, hearing voices, "build it and they will come", and when he builds a baseball diamond in his fields, it’s not long before the ghosts of Shoeless Joe Jackson and his seven Chicago White Sox teammates come to play.

Unfortunately, the web is not like that. Many businesses and organizations take the "Field of Dreams" approach to building and managing their web site, only to find that their web site is getting little nor no traffic to it. Creating a web site, in and of it self does not guarantee that your public is going to be able to find you.

So then, how do you get visitors to your web site? There are Internet based ways of driving traffic to your web sites for instance; banner advertising, paid specialty lists, and search engine placements. However traditional forms of marketing and public relations have proven to be the most effective

Every where we turn, we see and hear the "brick-and-mortar" powerhouses companies, driving us to their web sites. We hear them on the radio; we see them on the TV, in the newspapers, in magazines, in mail order catalogs, everywhere. Web Surfers gravitate immediately toward names they liked from their stores and catalogs, and New Egypt should be no exception.

As I surf New Egypt’s Main Streets, there are over 40 local businesses in the business directory, of which more than half of these businesses have web sites. However, I don’t see many of them promoting their web sites. Just scan the pages of this New Egypt Press, walk down Main Streets, and talk to the local business folk. How many of them are promoting their web sites?

Remember the benefits of building and maintaining a web site is that your audience can have access to your business or organization 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year long. The Web puts your business at your customer’s fingertips, when they want it, and how they want it; and most of all when they need it. Get feedback, inquires and orders 24 hours a day.

For those businesses or organizations considering a web site, don’t forget to take advantage of Main Streets USA’s free web site while the offer lasts. For more information visit http://newegypt.mainstreetsusa.com. God Bless and enjoy the holidays.

In last weeks eNew Egypt column, I incorrectly listed Plumsted Township’s Main Streets USA web address, the correct web address is http://newegypt.mainstreetsusa.com/township.
